Application process

After reviewing the available positions, candidates should enter The Strong’s online career center, provided through InfinityHR, and view the available positions. To apply for a position, simply select the position for which you would like to apply.  Once the application has been successfully completed, candidates can revisit the site to check the status of their application simply by logging in using the user name and password they created.

Assistant Director, ICHEG

Duties and Responsibilities:
The International Center for the History of Electronic Games® (ICHEG) at The Strong, is seeking an Assistant Director. This position will report to the Director of ICHEG and will assist in all aspects of operations, including: identifying and securing collections; overseeing digital preservation operations; researching, writing, and editing online content for the ICHEG website; creating on-site interpretative content; assisting with cataloging and conservation of collections; and assisting with the planning and implementation of exhibits. The Assistant Director will also represent ICHEG and The Strong within the video game universe, including participating at conferences, handling media inquiries, and engaging in social media.

Qualifications:

  • Four-year degree in history, computer science, game design, or related field; graduate degree highly desirable
  • Solid understanding of video games and the video games industry with a background that is broad enough to view video games within a larger social, cultural, intellectual, and historical context
  • High-degree of comfort and proficiency with digital media and computer technology
  • Ability to create online and physical interpretive content
  • Sufficient interpersonal, analytical, planning, and organizations skills to succeed in cultivating key constituencies for collection-building and institutional advancement
  • Highly motivated and well-organized with strong attention to details and deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well with others in a team-based environment

Web Technologies And Data Integration Specialist

Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is integral to shaping the future of Web-based endeavors for The Strong. The Web Technologies and Data Integration Specialist reports to the Director of Technology and works with the Technology Team, other teams throughout the institution, and external consultants and vendors to develop and coordinate solutions for all Web-based technologies representing The Strong Play Partners. This includes working with application owners to develop solutions that integrate key business systems and illuminate key business metrics; providing Web server management (Linux/Drupal/IIS/FTP/DNS); and developing interactive exhibit content (delivered locally) using Web technologies.

Qualifications:
The Web Technologies and Data Integration Specialist must illustrate proficiency in many, if not all, of the following areas through a portfolio of prior work, references, and recommendations:

  • Two plus years database development experience through professional or educational experience
  • Two plus years experience developing website and modules using proprietary, open source or commercial Content Management Systems (CMS)
  • Preferred development experience within the Drupal framework
  • Ability to think strategically about the big picture while maintaining excellent attention to detail
  • Mastery of HTML/CSS framework for site development
  • Significant experience with server-side programming languages such as PHP
  • Significant experience with JavaScript development, with AJAX experience specifically preferred
  • Significant experience using and integrating MySQL/MS-SQL backend databases
  • Significant experience managing production MySQL/MS-SQL databases
  • Experience with form data validation and security considerations
  • Experience in both Microsoft/IIS and Linux/Apache web server environments
  • Experience troubleshooting and successfully rectifying cross-browser compatibility issues
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a diverse, team-oriented environment of cultural and academic professionals

Desired Qualifications:
In addition to the requirements listed above, special consideration will be given to candidates who can illustrate experience or credentials in the following areas:

  • Experience updating and porting modules to Drupal 7
  • Web server management including backup & recovery techniques; FTP site & account management; DNS and domain management; SSL certificate installation & maintenance; web traffic logging and reporting services
  • Business Intelligence reporting including experience with OLAP/ cube technologies and  SQL Reporting Services
  • Experience supporting sales point applications like Siriusware and Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS)
  • Experience working with or developing Web content for cultural/non-profit institutions or attractions
  • Experience implementing and maintaining third party extranet solutions
  • Experience developing, editing, and producing multimedia for video/audio via the Web
  • Experience with third party analytic software such as Google Analytics
