The Merry Game of Old Maid

The cover illustration on this wooden box resembles another game in the museum collection, 107.2413. However the card designs are completely different. These cards represent characters from Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," with the Duchess as the Old Maid. First published in 1865, "Alice" was extremely popular and found its way into many games and toys. These may or may not be the cards original to this box.
